"I’m happy to travel on your dime in exchange for shameless promotion and recaps. I will blog, tweet, YouTube, Flickr and Facebook the shit out of my experience if it means a free trip to Tahiti or Egypt or any of the other couple hundred countries I haven’t traveled to."
Heh, yeah me too!

I'm giving away a free trip to the local Dairy Queen in exchange for some targeted article marketing... :)

Throw in a peanut buster parfait and you've got yourself a deal. ;P

I'll go one better - I don't need the parfait! Then again, I live in Marin county, California so that "free trip to the local DQ" would have to include the cost of the flight and rental car.... :-)

FYI, the last paragraph is tongue in cheek -- I'm not trying to shamelessly shill for a free trip to Anywheresville. :)

Most travel writers get the perks you mentioned above.
Likewise, most movie reviewers and food critics get the same perks too (though for movies and food respectively). Having been there and done that, it's not as exciting as you might think. I'd still prefer the freedom of working from home.
But those campaigns are pretty great linkbait/generated good buzz.
Thailand: mmm, nice second mover advantage...

Great to see that the traveling industry finally moves up with the time and using social media to increase the revenues in their industry. Can't wait till other countries are offering the same thing!

One wonders how the FTC will view such activity and how off country events are included

It seems to be a great idea if people blogging, tweet, YouTube, Flickr and Facebook even while they are travelling or on a tour...well it keep them engage with something that enables them to take out the best of their creativity and innovation...and also generating some kind of revenue as well for them....isn't it?
