Good and valuable post. I had no idea so many sites focused on social bookmarking.

I am surprised, however (then again, given all those sites, maybe i aught not to be), that you didn't mention ma.gnolia.

It's rank appears to be just past BlogMarks.

Great call Nathan (that's what happens when you do a post late at night). I have added ma.gnolia . I also added three others that should have been on the list:

* Shadows
* Jots
* RawSugar

Also, an addition to Ma.gnolia is it has a lot of community stuff: Groups, pming, etc. Along with a 'snapshot' of what your bookmarked page looks like.

I have noticed on many sites that they carry the icons with links to popular markers like del.ic.ious, reddit, digg etc. Anyone know how I can incorporate this feature into my website please? Thank you.

After the recent "numbers" fiasco at digg and their continued resistance to publish any sort of bury information I have begun to write digg off as another friendster.

digg claims to be democratic but, even in a democracy we see ALL of the votes after an election. Bury votes are still votes.

If digg were a democracy than wouldn't each vote (digg or bury) carry the same weight? Right now it takes far less buries to bury a story than it takes diggs to promote a story. Also, once buried a story can never be unburied.

The problem with all of the social bookmarking sites is that they are becoming clogged with link spam. With everyone using these sites to "drive more traffic to their sites", I think some are going to start imploding. Our site, Linkatopia.com isn't on your list but we actively prevent link spam from filling up our database.

You could add FriendSite.com to your list, it's got a great social bookmarking section and takes the best of MySpace and Facebook into one clear, fun and useful site.. hope that helps your list!

I would add www.IPopU.com to that list, its a pretty big Social Bookmarking site with 15,000+ members, and tens of thousands of submissions already. Clean simple layout, easy navigation, quick and easy submissions.Many categories to suite a variety of niches across the net.

Wow, it's been a year since I posted on this blog but I see that people keep referring to this page so I thought I would help you out with some updates.

4 of the 24 sites listed by the author of this page have changed or died (Alexa ranks are from today):
1) RawSugar.com, no longer a bookmarking site. Alexa rank: 77,609

2) Jots.com, no longer online, just a page of ads, Alexa rank: 871,345

3) Shadows.com, no longer online, just a page of ads, Alexa rank: 141,363

4) Spotplex.com, "going offline" message, Alexa rank: 379,120

Meanwhile, Linkatopia.com is slowly growing with an Alexa rank of 55,178. Linkatopia deserves its place in the list. Unlike other so-called bookmarking sites that seem to spring up every week, Linkatopia is serious about keeping its database as free of spam as possible. This might be why we don't seem to have as many "members" as some of these other sites.
